Charities call for a Coronavirus Emergency Income Support Scheme

Over 1.8 million people have applied for Universal Credit in recent weeks, and it is likely that more and more individuals and families are going to need to use food banks as the outbreak develops. A new coalition of charities, including the Trussell Trust, IFAN, Child Poverty Action Group, Children's Society, Joseph Rowntree Foundation, StepChange, and Turn2us, is urging the government to provide a Coronavirus Emergency Income Support Scheme to help the nation weather the storm of this pandemic.

COVID-19 BRIEFINGS - THE PPE SPIN UNRAVELS On March 26th we published a piece on the Government's response to the Coronavirus pandemic. We were supportive of the Government decision to follow the science and accepted that the statement that the country held the required PPE stock but there were inevitable logistical problems in getting PPE to the front line. Living in Poverty in Britain in 21st century Access to the internet is neither universally available nor free. Covid-19 has highlighted the essential need to have access to the internet for home schooling support, access to benefits and credit and avoiding financial exclusion, not least for vulnerable low income groups.
